What is Entertaiment?

Entertaiment is a broad term that can be interpreted in many ways. What is considered entertainment for one group may be regarded as work or cruelty by another. Despite the broad interpretation, there is an element of consistency in entertainment and familiar themes tend to cross over media. Many of these forms of entertainment are able to engage the human mind and provoke strong emotions such as fear, anger and love. It often hits on the themes that the human mind was shaped to react deeply to, such as backstabbing, murders etc.

The word ‘entertainment’ comes from the medieval Latin inter tenere, which is derived from the prefix inter and the suffix -tenere of the Indo-European root ten.
