The word Entertainment’ comes from the medieval Latin intertenere, meaning “to hold inside.” It has since become associated with various styles of rite, party, non secular pageant, and satire. The meaning of the word has also shifted to include things like backstabbing and murder. This is largely because entertainment often hits on themes that the brain was evolved to deeply react to, such as social backstabbing and other crimes of the heart.
