Articles about Entertaiment
The word entertainment has been used to describe anything that affords pleasure, diversion, or amusement, from the individual selecting his or her own private amusements out of a now enormous array of pre-recorded products; to a banquet for two; to an elaborate performance to accommodate thousands. Although entertainment is often seen as a frivolous activity, it can be a serious endeavor as evidenced by ceremonial ritual, religious festival, or the political satire of a picaresque novel.
The word derives from the medieval Latin inter tenere (literally to hold inside), where the prefix inter means “inside,” and the suffix tenere means to hold. The meaning has been transformed, however, by an industry that specializes in making entertainment. The entertainment industry is a mega-financial empire that includes film, music, sports and theater.
